Monroe Township, Pickaway County Authorized Bed & Breakfast
It's our pleasure to announce the Deer Creek Dam Bed & Breakfast  won formal authorization to operate as a Bed and Breakfast. We appreciate the encouragement received in private by neighbors.  Only two households from the entire township objecting to the B&B were present.  To paraphrase one Zoning Board of Appeals member, many objections were not the business of the Board.  If you are thinking of starting a business in Monroe Township/Pickaway County, we will be happy to discuss our experience with you.  Just give us a call.

Circus
LOOK FOR US JUNE 23 - 28! HOPE TO SEE YOUR SMILING FACES THEN!!!
DONE DONE DONE
Look for us the first week of June 23-28!!!
We are trying to to finalize arrangements to rent the south lot to a circus that will be in the area this summer.  If you ever wanted to "Join the Circus" for a night, let us know.

Seed Exchange
We are interested in the biodiversity of our prairie/meadow.  If you have any seeds or seedlings of native prairie plants you wish to trade, please let us know.  We will have a number of grasses (Little Bluestem, Big Bluestem, Indian Grass, Canada and Virginia Wildrye), and flower  seeds to exchange in the fall.  See the Nature Catalog.

%Wedding Bells%
While we normally operate as the traditional B&B, the entire house is available for rent for Wedding Functions.  The four bedrooms (and Great Room) provide ample space for many wedding parties.  Please call for details.

The Deer Creek Dam Bed & Breakfast was completed in 2005.  It is a four bedroom, two story, non-smoking home built with a Bed & Breakfast in mind.  Each bedroom comes with it own full bathroom for privacy.  The downstairs study, living room, and formal dining room feature hardwood floors rescued from a local 150 year old church destined for demolition.  The informal dining area has both counter seating and regular seating available, and has views of the sunrise as well as lake views.  The Bed & Breakfast is across the street from Deer Creek Dam and Deer Creek State Park. Guests are invited to check in early and stay late to enjoy the local attractions.

Deer Creek Dam B&B

Deer Creek Lake was designed and built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It was first authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1938, for the purpose of flood control, recreation, and fish and wildlife enhancement. Boaters enjoy unlimited horsepower on Deer Creek Lake. In the summer, the 1277 acre lake is a popular spot for fishing and water sports. Additional attractions include a marina, swimming beach, shooting range, archery range and horse trails. In the winter, cross country skiing is permitted on the golf course. We have several fishing rods, bicycles, and cross country skis available for use by guests, depending upon the season.

Deer Creek State Park lies on the eastern edge of the great till plains of Ohio. These plains receive their name from the glacial debris, or till, which is a mixture of sand, silt and gravel that was deposited by the glaciers. As glaciers advanced across the northern two-thirds of Ohio, most hills and valleys were covered and filled in by the till, leaving this part of Ohio relatively flat. The first settlers to the area did not find these open fields. Except for a few small prairie openings, the region was covered by dense woodlands. Wildflowers abound in the fields and woodlands of the till plains. In spring, common flowers are Dutchman's breeches, rue anemone, trillium, spring beauty and bloodroot. Summer months produce thimbleweed, wild lettuce, jewelweed and daisy fleabane. In autumn, the most abundant flowers are aster, goldenrod and chicory, whose roots were used by settlers to make a coffee-like beverage. The best known animals of the Deer Creek area include amphibians such as the chorus frog, spring peeper and American toad. Reptiles include box and painted turtles, black rat snake and eastern garter snake. Numerous mammals inhabit the park. Most of them are small and include the red fox, raccoon, opossum, woodchuck, skunk, rabbit, deer mouse and white-tailed deer. Deer Creek is known for its population of ring-necked pheasant. Other birds of the area include eastern meadowlark, song sparrow, cowbird, eastern bluebird, Purple Martin, barn & tree swallow and woodcock

A Bed and Breakfast experience can offer the finest features of a quality  hotel, with the added pleasure of making instant friends in a new place. A B&B differs from a hotel in that the innkeeper owns the property and resides there. B&Bs may cost less than a hotel, especially when you consider most have fewer taxes applied, breakfast is included, and you don't tip the bellman.  There are fewer than three guest rooms and they require very personal attention. Certain things are needed to achieve this.

Cooking and unregistered guests are not allowed. Smoking is not allowed. Children are welcome and we even have a more whimsical room available for them. Since we do not have a "staff", it is important to pre-arrange arrival and departure times. We need time to clean rooms, go grocery shopping, do bookkeeping, sewing, minor repairs, etc. Avoid surprises for yourself and us by keeping these considerations in mind. Arrival time must be confirmed in advance so we can be there to meet you.

We can accept some credit cards when payment is in advance.  Since we will turn away other guests once reservations are made, a security deposit of fifty percent of the room fee will be required.  Since a cancellation may mean a significant loss (we do not "double book" rooms), there is a cancellation fee.   In the event of a cancellation 30 or more days in advance there will be an administration charge of $25 dollars. Cancellations of less than 30 days typically result in a loss of the deposit amount. It is the responsibility of the guest at the time of booking to consider these policies. Many travelers purchase trip cancellation insurance to cover losses in the event of unforeseen changes in their plans. Your host will be glad to verify to your insurance agent any losses incurred to you in such an event.
