The Deer Creek
Dam Bed
&
Breakfast
It's our pleasure to announce the
Deer Creek Dam Bed
&
Breakfast won our case with the Monroe Township Board of Zoning
Appeals. It took over a year, and an appeal to the Ohio Fourth District
Court of Appeals, but for the moment, the Bed & Breakfast is reauthorized!
We thank all our friends for their advice and encouragement. If you would
like to see the 4th District Court ruling, see:

Deer Creek State Park lies on the eastern edge of the great till plains of Ohio. These plains receive their name from the glacial debris, or till, which is a mixture of sand, silt and gravel that was deposited by the glaciers. As glaciers advanced across the northern two-thirds of Ohio, most hills and valleys were covered and filled in by the till, leaving this part of Ohio relatively flat. The first settlers to the area did not find these open fields. Except for a few small prairie openings, the region was covered by dense woodlands. Wildflowers abound in the fields and woodlands of the till plains. In spring, common flowers are Dutchman's breeches, rue anemone, trillium, spring beauty and bloodroot. Summer months produce thimbleweed, wild lettuce, jewelweed and daisy fleabane. In autumn, the most abundant flowers are aster, goldenrod and chicory, whose roots were used by settlers to make a coffee-like beverage. The best known animals of the Deer Creek area include amphibians such as the chorus frog, spring peeper and American toad. Reptiles include box and painted turtles, black rat snake and eastern garter snake. Numerous mammals inhabit the park. Most of them are small and include the red fox, raccoon, opossum, woodchuck, skunk, rabbit, deer mouse and white-tailed deer. Deer Creek is known for its population of ring-necked pheasant. Other birds of the area include eastern meadowlark, song sparrow, cowbird, eastern bluebird, Purple Martin, barn & tree swallow and woodcock

A Bed and Breakfast experience
can offer the finest features of a quality hotel, with the added
pleasure of making instant friends in a new place. A B&B differs from a
hotel in that the innkeeper owns the property and resides there.
B&Bs may cost less than a hotel, especially when you consider most have
fewer taxes applied, breakfast is included, and you don't tip the bellman.
There are fewer than three guest rooms and they require very personal
attention. Certain things are needed to achieve this.
Cooking and unregistered guests are not allowed. Smoking is not allowed. Children are welcome and we even have a more whimsical room available for them. Since we do not have a "staff", it is important to pre-arrange arrival and departure times. We need time to clean rooms, go grocery shopping, do bookkeeping, sewing, minor repairs, etc. Avoid surprises for yourself and us by keeping these considerations in mind. Arrival time must be confirmed in advance so we can be there to meet you.
We can accept some credit cards
when payment is in advance. Since we will turn away other guests
once reservations are made, a security deposit of fifty percent of the room
fee will be required. Since a cancellation may mean a significant loss
(we do not "double book" rooms), there is a cancellation fee.
In the event of a cancellation 30 or more days in advance there will be an
administration charge of $25 dollars. Cancellations of less than 30 days
typically result in a loss of the deposit amount.
It is the responsibility of the guest at the time of booking
to consider these policies. Many travelers purchase trip cancellation
insurance to cover losses in the event of unforeseen changes in their
plans. Your host will be glad to verify to your insurance agent any losses
incurred to you in such an event.
